Maybe it is the environmentalist in you. Perhaps it is your inner cynic, blaming all of the evils of society on Big Oil. It could have also been a want of yours for some time. Whatever is yours, there are many reasons for wanting to drive an electric vehicle.

There is no doubt that rising gas prices and questionable advances in fuel economy are forcing us to rethink our transportation requirements. The major automakers are all convinced that we want bigger cars with more power, yet any time a decent small car is made, people scramble just to get in line to buy one. We don't need a six-cylinder engine in our compact car just to commute to work. Besides that, many of us drive 20 or fewer miles per day, and could even reduce that if we were to adjust our habits. This is where considering an electric vehicle could become a part of that thinking. An electric vehicle is not a direct replacement for a fossil fuel powered vehicle, but you can't directly compare two things that aren't the same. You have to appreciate each for what they can do on their own.

Sure, there could be a higher initial cost, but the benefits reaped after that spread many ways. Reduced costs per mile, reduced maintenance, reduced emissions...the list goes on. At one time, most of the major automakers discovered just how practical electric vehicles could be, forced to that conclusion by zero-emission legislation in California. The demise of that first wave of modern electric vehicles was coincident with the demise of that same legislation.

Electric vehicles are nothing new. The technology has existed as long as the automobile; in fact, many of the first automobiles were battery powered. It was big, inefficient gas engines, powered by cheap fuel, which first forced the electric automobile, and then the electric streetcar, into oblivion. The internal combustion engine had its place in history, and we should all appreciate it for what it has done for our infrastructure, but it's time is nearing an end. Let's all do our part to reverse the trend. The technology for electric vehicles can only get better. If you weigh the pros and cons, we think you will be surprised with what an electric vehicle could do for you.

You can turn your daily driver or that unused car or truck in your driveway into a fully functional electric vehicle for less than you might think!
